STEP 1 The first step in building yourself a twincam 'K' conversion is to source a cylinder head, this is not too difficult as there are many BMW bike breakers advertised on the internet, BUT with the success of this conversion many breakers have raised the price from £100 2 years ago to approx £350. another option is to buy brand new from BMW but this would be a costly option as my last quote was £900 for a bare casting. STEP 2 The second step is to get the cylinder head converted to run a dry belt and also oil return drains will need to be tapped. STEP 3 The third step would be to purchase a conversion kit this gives all the components needed to carry out the conversion. STEP 4 The forth step would be to convert the 'A' series block, this allows the BMW 'K' head to fit STEP 5 The fith step would be deciding which pistons to use, standard or up-rated pistons can be machined for 8v & 16v pockets.
Morspeeds build guide has been designed around using the K1100 16v head, but the proccess is the same for any of the 4 variants, the obvious diffrence or change to be made is the valve pockets machined into the pistons for either 8v or 16v. All machining and parts required are inter-changable between all 4 variations.
